I first discovered this author with her Chicago Syndicate series. From the first book I was hooked. So when I discovered that she had a new book coming out I didn't even hesitate to read it without even looking at the blurb. All I knew is that this was going to be dark and centered around a sex club. Well, color me shocked to discover that there was more to it than that being that it was a historical romance. I was not prepared for that.

Once I got past the idea that this was set in 19oo I settled in for the ride. While I did like certain aspects of this book there were some issues that I had concerning what seemed plausible and what didn't. The passage of time was another issue here especially in regards to how well Ivy was able to adapt to something that she was dealing with. The story also was very different than the author's usual writing style. At times it seemed stilted and lacked the cohesiveness that I normally find with this author which, incidentally, is the very reason that I immediately wanted to read a book she wrote in the first place. It often felt rushed rather than fleshed out. However, the book had promise and an interesting premise. It also had a few twists that I was not coming to expect. The steamy times were very steamy.

While this was not my favorite of this author I am sure that there are others out there that will disagree with me and that is okay. The beauty of literature is to find books that move us as individuals and not everything I like will be liked by others and visa versa.
